Summary

 

Motivation is a key factor in the success of students at all stages of their education, and teachers can play a pivotal role in providing and encouraging that motivation in their students. Even the best intentioned and educated teachers sometimes lack the skills to keep kids on track. This training will provide participants with a range of useful methods to motivate their students and to encourage them to live up to their true potential.

“From magical solutions to schemes of actions” is the motto of this workshop. From the first day participants will elaborate their own personal motivation guides based on their own realities they work in. All of that will be achieved with the support of basic theoretical knowledge, new contributions of neuroscience, programs, and tips on how to adapt to their classroom and students.

Methodology

The approach will be practical, experiential and based on an analysis of reality and the concerns of the group. Mainly we will work in assembly and small groups, encouraging the reflection and creativity in order to expand the options and alternatives for action. We will also make use of the role-play, and the analysis of cases and group dynamics.

Additionally, course follow-up strategy will be proposed to all the teachers in order to monitor the implementation of good practices in their schools based on the knowledge, skills and competencies gained by them during the course in Spain.

Through their commitment and active participation to share new competencies they will be able to build professionally oriented support networks in their communities, making, at the same time, their work and contribution more visible on a local scale.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this course, participants will be able to:

  1. become more aware of their impact on the intellectual development of a learner;
  2. be able to effectively support motivation of their students;
  3. bet to know and be able to use a wide range of tools aimed at motivating and keeping motivated students;
  4. be able to use different methods of implementing creative solution in their professional life, discovering at the same time their own creative resources;
  5. be able to unblock patterns of thinking which we use on a daily basis increasing of the communication skills and relationship building process;
  6. feel more motivated and excited about their day to day professional work transmitting this positive attitude to the rest of the teaching community;
  7. acquire simple techniques in order to improve attention and concentration levels in the classroom as well as boosting curiosity, learning principles and motivation in order to want to know more.

Day 1 (5 hours)

PILLARS OF MOTIVATION

  • Getting to know each other and sharing experiences.
  • What to do & not to do? The most common reasons of lack of motivation. What does motivation mean? Why do students set and sustain goals?
  • Main Theories. Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Six C’s of motivation. What does it mean that a student is mastery-oriented / performance-oriented?
  • Imagine: Brief discussion about today’s teaching techniques and the new trends in the educational sector.

Day 2 (5 hours)

TO LEAD THEM, FIRST YOU HAVE TO KNOW THEM

  • The key – Me! Greatest challenges of the modern teacher: How to build relationship with students.
  • Feelings: How to create a supportive classroom community: emotions and learning process.
  • Make it happen I: How to motivate students to work harder. Guidebook. Motivation’s inner factors: Self-Concept, Autonomy & Achievement Motivation.
  • Involve me: Students’ involvement in teaching process.

Day 3 (5 hours)

PLAYING WITH TIME

  • Make it happen II: How to motivate students to work harder. Guidebook. Motivation’s external factors: Teacher, Methodology, School Subjects & Family.
  • Methodology: The power of examples. How to create interesting lessons?
  • Inspiration: Presentation of the most successful techniques to motivate students. Where to find inspiration teaching materials and tools?

Day 4 (5 hours)

ALL FOR ONE

  • Where are you? Greatest challenges of the modern teacher: how to keep students motivated? Tools and strategies to keep students motivated and focused. Mindfulness. The theory of multiple intelligences.
  • To go further: the power of integrated projects and the importance of cooperation between parents and teachers. Examples of good practices: learning communities and Interactive groups.
  • To win: strengthening motivation and self-confidence through sports achievements and other disciplines.

Day 5 (5 hours)

TO DO OR NOT TO DO, THAT’S THE QUESTION

  • Personalized Plans. Guidebooks with guidelines and implementation tips related to motivating and keeping motivated students.
  • Scheme of action. Presentation of the workshop results.
  • We have the power. Summary, conclusions and commitments.
