Description

The introductory English course is designed to cover a wide range of topics from the use of technology in the classroom to pronunciation and grammar. Furthermore, all the activities have teachers in mind and can be adapted to various learning preferences in their own teaching environments.

The aim of the course is to introduce the participants to the essentials they need to know in English, how and when to use them, additionally taking the knowledge forward to their own students.

The course dynamic is focused on combining diverse, dynamic activities both in the classroom and around the city, these factors make the week far more enjoyable and add an element of cultural immersion.

A focus on technology and how to really exploit these platforms in the class makes the course relevant and current for the modern educator. The combination of indoor and outdoor activities really gives participants the opportunity to learn varied content in various contexts.

Competences Developed

  • Gain essential linguistic competence to use English in daily adult contexts (shopping, introductions, talking about past/future, etc.).
  • Understand basic grammar structures (present, past, future tenses; question forms; quantifiers).
  • Develop functional language skills (asking for directions, ordering food, giving personal information).
  • Expand core vocabulary related to food, clothes, travel, and social interaction.
  • Recognize cultural aspects of English-speaking countries and how they differ from their own.
  • Build confidence in expressing themselves in English, both in spoken and written form.
Skills Acquired
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Construct correct basic English sentences and use common grammar structures confidently.
  • Understand and use essential vocabulary in context.
  • Engage in basic conversations: introductions, daily routines, giving opinions, etc.
  • Perform real-life tasks in English (e.g., shopping, asking for help, giving directions).
  • Use English to describe people, places, actions, and events.
  • Listen and respond to simple audio materials like songs or short videos.
  • Participate actively in group learning, showing teamwork and communication skills.

The course uses a dynamic, learner-centered approach designed for adult participants with limited English skills. The teaching is built around:

  • Lessons include real-life scenarios, pair work, and role-plays to encourage communication in everyday contexts.

  • Hands-on activities like shopping tasks, direction-giving, storytelling, and food ordering ensure practical language use.

  • Cultural immersion activities (e.g., market visits) bring language to life in authentic environments.

  • Videos, music, flashcards, language games (Kahoot, Wordwall) make learning fun, relevant, and effective.

  • Grammar and vocabulary build logically each day, reinforcing prior learning.

  • Methods accommodate various adult learning styles and levels of confidence.

Upon completion of the course, participants will:

  • Demonstrate improved ability to communicate in everyday English situations.

  • Show increased confidence in both spoken and written English.

  • Be equipped with a foundation in basic grammar and vocabulary.

  • Be able to interact independently in simple social and travel situations.
